When we wake up in
the morning and turn on the news or read newspapers, it's always the same sad
news: violence, crime, war, and disaster. I can't remember a day when there
wasn't a report of something bad happening somewhere. It is clear that our
lives are not safe, and no generation before us has had to deal with so much
bad news. This constant feeling of fear and anxiety should make anyone who
cares about us question the progress of our world. We've come a long way in
science and technology, but it's still not enough to bring us peace and
happiness or to get rid of suffering. We've seen a huge increase in literacy,
but it doesn't seem to be doing much to promote goodness; it's just creating
more mental stress and unhappiness.
In every culture,
there were religions that emerged because human beings understood something
beyond human control. We gave the name God, and all the religions also taught
people to reach out to God in different ways and with different names. To unite
people, every religion had different prayers, rituals, revelations, signs, and
symbols; later, they became organized structures. Religions emphasize ethics:
to live in peace and harmony and to put an ultimate end to heaven or God.
Unfortunately, religious belief has become the primary cause of conflict all
over the globe. It has claimed the highest number of human lives and inflicted
the highest amount of suffering on the planet for millennia. That's because this
type of religion comes from a collection of beliefs without experiencing God.
Unfortunately, even all religions have lost their purpose today because somehow,
we have struck at some human limitations and our petty desires and convictions
rather than looking into the truth. Once we start believing something, we feel
like we can do whatever we want. But if we don't know what that means, it's a
disaster. That's what we are seeing in the world right now. Our belief systems
make us feel really confident, and that confidence without a clear vision is a
huge problem. We've always seen the world as a place of conflict between one
man's beliefs and another man's beliefs. When we think we are right and someone
else thinks they're right, we are bound to fight. When any religion is ignorant
of not seeing the truth, its beliefs, and its ways are considered perfect and
true, and this will lead to excluding humans from one religion and culture to another. Ultimately, we could only create fear, divisions, condemnation, and
hate. This is what we could see from the human history of many wars!
Basically, every
religion has the capacity to awaken spirituality, but unfortunately, we often
don't focus on it. Today, we need to move from religiosity to spirituality in
every religion. But what is spirituality? It's the ability to go beyond ourselves through understanding and love so that we
can be more connected to others and become more than just ourselves. It's a
part of who we are as human beings, and it's a life project and practice. It's
not just a capacity to realize; it's a relationship. Spirituality is unique,
just like a person is. One of the fundamentals of any spirituality is the
recognition of the interconnectedness of all beings. It reminds us that we are
not separate from the world around us but rather an integral part of it.
Through this understanding, we cultivate compassion, empathy, and a sense of
responsibility toward the well-being of all living creatures. By embracing our
interconnectedness, we foster harmony and unity, creating a ripple effect that
extends far beyond ourselves. Under the chaos of everyday life lies the innate
desire within us to unearth our purpose, meaning, and connection to something
greater. Spirituality provides a gateway to this profound journey within us. It
is not limited to any particular religion or belief system; rather, it
transcends the confines of dogma and encourages us to explore our own unique
spiritual path.
In a world filled
with distractions and constant demands, spirituality provides a sacred refuge
for our weary souls. By embarking on a journey of self-discovery, embracing our
interconnectedness, and seeking meaning and purpose, we tap into the transformative
power of spirituality. It has the capacity to illuminate our lives, bringing
forth inner peace, enlightenment, and a profound sense of fulfillment. So, let
us embark on this divine quest within ourselves, embracing spirituality as a
guiding light toward a more awakened and vibrant existence.
